Environmental Permitting (England & Wales) Regulations 2010

The Environmental Permitting Regulations have reviewed the whole exemption process. The aim of this is to provide a more risk based approach to the regulation of waste recovery. The new regulations increase the use of exemptions for low risk activities whilst removing or restricting the availability of the exemptions from higher risk waste operations by seeking to regulate them through standard permits. The new Regulations come into force on 6th April 2010. Anyone wanting to carry out a new activity on or after this date will need to register one of the new exemptions or apply for a permit Exemptions that have already been registered as of 5th April 2010 will move into the new system in phases ending in October 2013.
